ABOUT US

The name Papillarya comes from the English medical term "Papillary Region" and refers to a layer between the dermis and epidermis that strengthens the connection between these two layers of skin. We understand the name as an analogy for the desired interdisciplinarity of this exhibition concept. Papillarya was launched in the spring 2022 out of the desire to break out of the White Cube and question the attitude of individualism and elitism in fine arts.

The concept aims for interculturality, interdisciplinarity, and inclusion. In doing so, we have experimented with various formats and undergone diverse learning processes. Specifically, the art exhibitions were curated in spaces not typically used as galleries. The participating artists have worked with doctors, social workers, and tattoo artists. â€‹
